Pier 39 Entertainment Sea Lions & Underwater World

 

PIER 39 in San Francisco is a festival marketplace with more than one hundred stores and lots of restaurants with San Francisco Bay views. Pier 39 is the most exciting place for tourists in San Francisco. 


 


The Sea Lions that hang out next to Pier 39 are the most interesting part of Pier 39. The Marine Mammal Center conducts many educational programs for visitors to learn about these marine mammals and offers an up-close view of the sea lion habitat. Sea lions are of course, the Pier 39 "sea lebrities" -- hundreds of California sea lions call Pier 39 home. Throughout the years, the educational program has been a success with visitors to Pier 39. The sea lion population grows as high as 900 during the winter season, have been a hit with visitors to Pier 39. Annually, the sea lions tend to migrate to the Channel Islands in the summer season -- but now, a small number stay in the Bay Area throughout the year. K-Dock in Pier 39 is now officially designated a "Watchable Wildlife" viewing area by the California Watchable Wildlife Project.

Underwater World is another important place for visitors in Pier 39.  Underwater World is a big aquarium with all different looking fish floating along side. The tunneled walkway is more than 300 feet long and is crystal clear for kids of all ages to see sharks, eels, octopus and thousands of marine animals indigenous to the waters of the San Francisco Bay. Naturalists are available Throughout the Pier 39 Aquarium to answer questions about sea animals and encourage exploration.

There is also a mini-amusement park in Pier 39 and the highlight of this park is its colorful Venetian carousel.  Pier 39 is also flanked by 2 marinas where numerous boats are docked. Some of the fleet anchored here provide short and long sightseeing cruises of San Francisco Bay. One can see a variety of ships and boats in Pier 39, sail boats, cruise ships and cargo ships. Boating is the best part of Pier39.  This is the home bay for Blue And Gold Tour cruise trips to Alcatraz, bay bridge and other pleasure boat trips. There are lot of free entertainment happening places in Pier 39. Apart from that San Francisco tourists can enjoy good views of Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Angel Island and fantastic bay scenes.  Another aspect that adds on Pier 39's tourist spot is its street performers.  Many jugglers, magicians, mimes and comedians entertain people who visit Pier 39. There is a theater in Pier 39 which shows a 30-minute destination film for visitors highlighting the history, scenic beauty, celebrations, people and enchantment of Pier 39.
